New England Surface Finishing Regional Set for November

The Springfield, Mass., AESF branch, in conjunction with Valley Plating and Poly Plating, has announced this year’s New England Surface Finishing Regional is set for November. The event will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Cape Codder Resort & Spa in Hyannis, Mass.

The U.S. government’s trade-in program, Cash for Clunkers, sparked a boost in demand making July auto sales better-than-expected—more precisely, the best performance since August 2008. GM, Chrysler Group, Fort Motor Co., and Honda Motor all said they were helped by the popular program, with Ford in particular showing a 2% increase year over year while overall U.S. auto sales rose sharply month over month.

Pace of GDP Declines in Second Quarter

A newly released Commerce Department Report showed gross domestic product, GDP, slowed 1% in the second quarter vs. 6.4% in the first three months of the year. Economists and analysts say that’s an encouraging sign that the recession might be coming to an end.
